“Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.”

United Way is partnering with the Clarksville Montgomery County School System to rewrite the book on volunteer engagement. READ UNITED is a virtual volunteer opportunity that allows individuals to read to elementary school students through Zoom, a video conference software. The innovative reading program engages  volunteers and students from local elementary schools. Once a week during a designated time, volunteers and students connect online and read alternate pages of a book aloud for twenty to thirty minutes.

  • The program runs for eight weekly sessions from March 5, 2018 through April 30, 2018.
  • Participating schools are responsible for providing computers and internet access for student use, as well as any required background checks for volunteers.
  • Participating volunteers/workplaces must have computers, smartphones or tablet devices with camera capability with internet access and the ability to download Zoom.
  • United Way and schools will coordinate training for volunteers and necessary security precautions and will provide the books for each volunteer.

Registration is opened until February 5th. To sign up as a READ UNITED volunteer, please contact Sarah Eskildson at 931-647-4291 or swood@uwgcr.org.
