How does United Way decide where and how funds are distributed to the nonprofit agencies that we support?
United Way prides itself on being committed to ensuring that donor dollars and funds raised are utilized and distributed in a fiscally responsible and efficient way with great attention to our community’s most critical needs. Every year, United Way of the Greater Clarksville Region forms a Budget and Allocations Committee to help us decide how monies should be allocated to nonprofit agencies that have applied for funding.
How is the process conducted, and what does the B&A Committee do?
The Budget and Allocations process runs from April – June. We first form a B&A Committee consisting of 9 panels with members from Montgomery, Houston, and Stewart counties. Each panel will have a Panel Chair, a financial member, and 3 additional members. Members attend a mandatory training/orientation. Then, applications from the nonprofit agencies are divided between the panels. Panel members will review the applications which include operations and financials of the agencies, as well as conduct site visits and interviews with each. Recommendations of the committee will then be presented to the board by the Panel Chairs for approval to decide how funds raised will be allocated to the agencies.
