How does United Way decide where and how funds raised in the campaign year are distributed to the nonprofit agencies they support?
United Way prides itself on being committed to ensuring that donor dollars and funds raised are utilized and distributed in a fiscally responsible and efficient way with great attention to our community’s most critical needs. Annually, United Way of the Greater Clarksville Region forms a 45-member Budget and Allocations Committee composed of local residents living in Montgomery , Houston, and Stewart counties that represent UWGCR’s donors. The B&A Committee reviews each agency and makes recommendations to UWGCR’s Board of Directors on how funds should be allocated to the nonprofit partner agencies that have applied for funding.
How is the B&A process conducted, and what does the B&A Committee do?
The B&A process runs from April-June. The committee is divided into 9 panels – each panel will have a Panel Chair, a financial member, and 3 additional members. Agency applications for funding will be assigned to each panel and members will review the applications, the agency’s financials, operations, etc. as well as conduct site visits to each agency and panel review sessions. Each member will score their assigned agencies utilizing a scoring rubric covering several topics/areas of each agency. After the review sessions, panels will convene and discuss how much funding each agency should receive, and Panel Chairs will report recommendations to the UWGCR Board of Directors who make the final decisions on allocating funds.
