Cooling Shelter Now Open

July 18, 2022

Summer temps this season have been brutal, and to provide relief for our unhoused friends and anyone else who may need to escape the heat, United Way GCR has partnered with First Presbyterian Church and the City of Clarksville to open a cooling shelter.

Located at 215 Foster Street in downtown Clarksville (the former Loaves & Fishes building), the cooling shelter offers a friendly environment with convenience items available including snacks, bottled water, a charging station for your phones or other electronics, a television, and mats for napping and/or just resting to get out of the heat. Children are also welcome to come!

If you see anyone out on the streets or maybe the A/C in the house has stopped working and they need some relief, please share the cooling shelter information with them! Hours are Monday through Saturday 1:00-8:00 pm and Sundays are 1:00-6:00 pm. The shelter is open now through August 1 and is being held in the downstairs gym in the former Loaves and Fishes building.

Staff and volunteers will always be there to provide assistance and a friendly smile!
